投资率和消费率投资率是指一定时期内（通常为一年）资本形成总额占国内生产总值的比重。计算公式如下：投资率=资本形成总额/国内生产总值%26times;100％消费率又称最终消费率，通常指一定时期内最终消费（总消费）占国内生产总值的比率，一般按现行价格计算。计算公式如下：消费率=最终消费/国内生产总值%26times;100％其中，最终消费包括居民消费和政府消费。社会上也有人用社会消费品零售总额代替最终消费，用生产法GDP代替支出法GDP计算消费率，但这种方法大大低估了消费率。原因是，社会消费品零售总额与最终消费存在较大差异，它仅与最终消费中的商品性货物消费相对应，服务性消费以及实物性消费、自产自用消费和其他虚拟消费都不包括在内，不能全面反映生产活动最终成果中用于最终消费的总量。在国内生产总值一定且净出口保持基本稳定的情况下，资本形成总额和最终消费额是此消彼长的。一个国家（或地区）的GDP如果用于投资的部分多了，投资率就会提升，那么可用于消费的部分就减少了，消费率就相对降低了。一般来说，投资是扩大再生产、提高生产能力的重要手段，较高的投资率不仅可以直接带动生产的增长，还会带动居民消费的增长。发展中国家和地区为保持经济较快地增长，都维持较高的投资率水平。当经济发展到一定水平后，投资率会逐步趋缓，消费率逐步提升。此时，经济增长也由投资拉动为主转为以消费拉动为主，此后，消费率始终保持较高水平。
