舌诊舌诊通过察看舌质和舌苔的形态、色泽、润燥等变化以诊察疾病的方法。舌为心之苗，脾之外候，舌苔为胃气的反映，人体五脏六腑通过经络和经筋的循行直接或间接地与舌有联系。所以舌象的变化能客观地反映正气的盛衰、病邪的深浅、邪气的性质、病情的进退，还可以判断疾病的转归和预后。舌诊分为望舌质和望舌苔两方面。望舌质包括：①舌神。表现为舌质的荣枯和灵活运动情况。荣润红活为有神，干枯死板为无神。②舌色。主病的舌色有淡白舌，主虚证、寒证，红绛舌，主实证、热证，青紫舌而润的为寒，青紫舌而燥的为热。③舌形。舌体的形状，包括胖瘦、老嫩、胀瘪、舌面起刺、见瘀斑、有裂纹、舌边有齿痕，以及重舌、舌衄、舌痈、舌疔、舌菌、舌下络脉等。④舌态。舌体运动状态，包括舌体强硬、痿软、颤动、歪斜、吐弄、短缩等。临床上望舌质以舌色为主，综合考虑舌神之荣枯，舌形舌态之异常。望舌苔包括：①苔色。病态的苔色主要有白苔、黄苔、灰黑苔。有时也可发生绿苔、霉酱苔。②苔质。即苔的形质。分为苔的厚薄、润燥、腐腻、偏全、剥落、消长、真假等。在一般情况下，舌质与舌苔的变化是统一的。舌质反映脏腑气血的虚实，可知正气的盛衰，舌苔反映病邪性质和病位深浅，可知邪气的消长。气分病察舌苔，血分病观舌质。淡白舌主虚寒，红舌主热证，青紫舌润者为寒，燥者为热；白苔主表征、寒证，黄苔主里证、热证，灰黑苔润者为寒，燥者为热。同时应注意二者的相互关系。如舌红苔黄而干，是内有实热的舌象；舌淡苔白而润，为虚寒病证的变化。有时舌质舌苔变化不一致，如红绛舌温邪入营，兼见白苔而干，表示燥热伤津，兼见滑腻苔白表示气分有湿，或为内伤病阴虚火旺而又有痰湿。因此，舌诊需结合临床具体分析，同时结合其他诊法才能正确判断。
