二氧化锰MnO2一种重要的无机盐工业产品。黑色或灰黑色晶体或无定形粉末。不溶于水,高温下与碳反应生成金属锰。是两性物质,具有良好的吸附性能和较强的氧化能力。工业上制取二氧化锰的主要方法有:①电解法由锰矿化学加工而得的硫酸锰精制液(浓度为130~207g/l)进行电解,控制电解温度为85~95℃、槽电压 2.5~3V、电流效率90%~95%。二价锰在阳极上被氧化成四价锰并沉积在阳极表面上,将沉积的二氧化锰定期(一般为一个月)剥离下来,经粉碎、洗涤、干燥即得成品。该法所得产品放电性能好,但电耗高,一般生产每吨二氧化锰需耗电7.2~10.8GJ。②热分解法 由锰矿化学加工而得的两价锰盐(碳酸锰、硝酸锰或氢氧化锰)在有充足氧和水蒸气的存在下,在温度约为300~350℃的条件下分解、氧化成二氧化锰,经净化即可得成品。③天然二氧化锰矿提纯法将天然优质软锰矿经选矿、煅烧、化学处理提纯及活化可制得二氧化锰。该法简单、经济,但产品放电性能稍差。二氧化锰在电池工业中的用量很大,主要用作电池的去极剂,保证干电池的正常放电。利用其良好的吸附性能,用来制造防毒面具。是玻璃的退色剂,在陶瓷、搪瓷生产中用来制造釉药。还可作有机合成的催化剂、油漆的催干剂、火柴的助燃剂等。
