草鱼草鱼Ctenopharyngodonidella;grasscarp鲤形目鲤科雅罗鱼亚科草鱼属的唯一种。又称白鲩,草根鱼,厚鱼。体略呈圆筒形,头部稍平扁,尾部侧扁;口呈弧形,无须;上颌略长于下颌;体呈浅茶黄色,背部青灰,腹部灰白,胸、腹鳍略带灰黄,其他各鳍浅灰色(见图)。为中国东部广西至黑龙江等平原地区的特有鱼类。草鱼栖息于平原地区的江河湖泊,一般喜居于水的中下层和近岸多水草区域。性活泼,游泳迅速,常成群觅食。为典型的草食性鱼类。在干流或湖泊的深水处越冬。生殖季节亲鱼有溯游习性。已移殖到亚、欧、美、非各洲的许多国家。因其生长迅速,饲料来源广,是中国淡水养殖的四大家鱼之一。
